How to water your plants during the holidays ?

Comment arroser ses plantes pendant les vacances ? - La Green Touch

Finally, the holidays are here, but every year it's the same dilemma for watering the plants !

How will I water them during the holidays ? Who will take care of my little ones ? Should I provide them with ultra-abundant watering before leaving, or entrust this delicate mission to a friend, a neighbor however novice he may be ?

In short, the solutions may seem complex but in reality, various and simple tips exist.

Also, La Green Touch gives you some advice for watering your plants to prevent them from triggering a survival mode which could harm them in your absence.

1. Water each of your plants copiously the day or the day before your departure.

2. Fill your saucers with water, except for succulents and cacti! And yes, we usually recommend emptying the saucers so that the roots do not stagnate in the water; but in periods of summer heat this water will be quickly absorbed by the plant and will not have time to harm it.

3. Place mulch at the base of the plants. This helps maintain humidity by avoiding evaporation of water and early drying out of the root ball. It can be bark, clay balls, or even simple dried leaves, to be placed in a relatively thick layer for an optimal result.

4. Reduce the lighting in your interior to put your plants “at rest”. With less light, they will photosynthesize less and therefore require less water.

5. Install an automatic irrigation system. Ideal for plants thanks to a drip which allows deep humidification of the substrate, it remains the autonomous solution in all circumstances.

Finally, if when you return from vacation, a plant has not held up and seems completely dried out, try to rescue it by completely bathing the root ball in water for several days. The foliage should straighten out and the plant should regain its “ spirits ”. Then cut off anything that hasn't come back to life and enjoy it again !
