Bromelia is a tropical plant very appreciated for its bright and varied colors, thus infusing an exotic touch into an interior. This plant has the particularity to flower only once. Its flowering lasts between 3 to 6 months. In order to extend the life of these pretty flowers in your interior, here are some necessary tips.

As we explained to you, the Bromelia flower generally lasts 3 to 6 months. The idea is to be careful not to remove the inflorescence straight away but to wait for a few shoots to appear before cutting the faded flower.

The Bromelia flower actually forms shoots which will subsequently allow a new plant to grow, and thus to flower in turn.
At the end of flowering of your Bromelia and after the appearance of suckers, cut the inflorescence (also called flower stalk).

Then keep the plant mother to collect the new shoots that it will make at the base of the plant. As soon as the shoots seem sufficiently developed (at least 5 cm), remove them carefully, taking care to preserve the roots. Plant them in an orchid potting mix. Water them and ensure that your new planting is placed in a relatively warm location.

Note that some replanted suckers may take several years before they can flower again. However, we have a little tip that will help you speed up the flowering of your Bromeliad.

All you have to do is wrap your Bromelia in a plastic bag and place an apple inside, next to your plant. The apple will thus promote faster flowering. Keep in mind that you will still have to be patient before your Bromelia finds an inflorescence... but believe us, it is worth it !
