Perlite is a great addition to your soil mix. It improves the aeration and drainage qualities of any soil mix. Perlite is very lightweight and a sustainable resource. Perlite is also great for propagating plants. Simply fill the container with water and perlite and submerge the plant stem in it.
This perlite is carefully sieved and does not stir up powder when moved, making it safer than regular powdered perlite. Small particles are unhealthy and can become embedded in the lungs.
Perlite vs Vermiculite
Compared to vermiculite, it retains less water and creates a more aerated substrate. It is ideal for most houseplants, except those that prefer moist soil, such as alocasia, calathea & maranta plants.
