À propos de cette collection
Choose the right palm tree for your space
Selecting a palm tree depends primarily on your desired location. For indoors, choose varieties like Chamaedorea or Areca, which adapt perfectly to our homes. These species tolerate filtered light and ambient air well.
For outdoors, consider your climate zone. Trachycarpus fortunei resists temperatures down to -15°C, while Phoenix prefers milder climates. Also check available space: some palm trees can reach several meters in height at maturity.
Light is crucial: most palm trees appreciate bright exposure without direct burning sunlight. Good drainage is also essential to prevent root rot.
Expert guide: growing palm trees successfully
Optimal growing conditions
Palm trees thrive in well-draining substrate, ideally composed of quality potting soil mixed with coarse sand and perlite. pH should be slightly acidic to neutral, between 6.0 and 7.0. Ambient humidity plays a crucial role: maintain humidity levels of 40 to 60% by regularly misting the foliage.
Watering and fertilizing
Watering should be regular but moderate. Let the substrate dry between waterings, especially in winter. In summer, water 1 to 2 times per week depending on temperature and humidity. Use room-temperature water, preferably non-calcareous.
Fertilize monthly from March to September with a special palm or houseplant fertilizer. Reduce applications in fall and suspend in winter to respect the plant's dormancy period.
Pruning and maintenance
Only cut completely yellowed or dried fronds, cutting near the trunk. Avoid trimming still-green fronds as they nourish the plant. Regular leaf dusting promotes photosynthesis and prevents pests.
Common problems and solutions
Brown tips often indicate air that's too dry or excess lime. Mealybugs and red spider mites are the most frequent pests: treat with black soap or natural miticide. General yellowing typically reveals excess water or lack of light.

Questions fréquentes
Which palm tree to choose for indoors?
Areca and Chamaedorea are perfect for beginners. They tolerate our indoor environments well and remain moderate in size. Kentia is also excellent but grows more slowly.
Do palm trees resist cold?
This depends on the species. Trachycarpus fortunei supports temperatures down to -15°C, while Phoenix canariensis resists to -8°C. Indoor palm trees do not tolerate frost.
What exposure for a palm tree?
Most prefer bright light without direct burning sunlight. Indoors, place them near an east or west-facing window. Outdoors, partial shade exposure is often ideal.
How to water a palm tree?
Water moderately by letting the soil dry between waterings. In summer, 1 to 2 times per week is sufficient. Reduce in winter and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Why are my palm tree's leaves yellowing?
Yellowing can indicate excess water, lack of light, or air that's too dry. Check watering, exposure, and ambient humidity. Old fronds naturally yellow.
Should I repot a palm tree?
Repot every 2-3 years in spring, into a slightly larger pot. Palm trees prefer to be somewhat root-bound. Use well-draining substrate suitable for palm trees.
Do palm trees flower indoors?
Some indoor palm trees can flower once mature, but this is rare in our homes. Flowering generally occurs after several years of optimal growing conditions.
