Perfect drainage is essential to prevent bulb rot. Work your soil deeply and amend heavy soils with coarse sand and compost. The golden rule for planting depth: three times the height of the bulb. Plant the pointed end upward, except for begonia bulbs which should be planted with the hollow side facing up.

Maintenance and naturalization

After flowering, let the foliage yellow naturally for 6 to 8 weeks to allow the bulb to rebuild its reserves. Remove faded flowers to prevent exhaustion. For successful naturalization, choose varieties adapted to your climate and let them multiply naturally.
